Colours of the Rainbow

Primary coloured kids wear was once seen as an unsophisticated choice aligned with Lego T-shirts and rubber wellington boots - but not any more.

Most key childrenswear designers have included strong, vivid primary colour in their new summer 2017 collections.

Colour appears not just on its own but also in bold rainbow stripes, checks and colour block pieces, so much that the French edition of Milk magazine recently featured a rainbow shades editorial with children all in different primary shades.

Yellow is one of the most popular shades and features strongly in key brands such as Little Marc Jacobs, Margherita Kids, Il Gufo and No 21. Red can be found in the Stella McCartney Kids, Paul Smith Junior, Karl Lagerfeld Kids and Armani Junior collections while Blue and Green are well represented in Kenzo Kids, Billybandit, Moschino and MSGM collections.

For labels that combine strong primaries in inspiring patterns and designs look to Stella Jean and Billybandit.
